How recipe suggestions work
FridgeFlow's recipe engine works in the background. It looks at the items in your inventory that are expiring soonest and matches them to recipe ideas. The more items you have in FridgeFlow — especially with expiry dates — the better the suggestions get.

Using recipe suggestions
- 1
Go to "Recipes" in the sidebar
Tap Recipes in the navigation menu. You'll see your personalised list of suggestions.
- 2
Set the expiry window
Use the day-range buttons at the top to filter recipes by how urgently you need to use the ingredients — 3 days (very urgent), 7 days, or 14 days (plan ahead).
- 3
Pick a recipe
Each card shows the recipe name, which of your ingredients it uses, and an urgency badge. Recipes using ingredients expiring today are marked "Use today".
- 4
Cook it and mark as used
When you've cooked the meal, go back to Inventory and mark the used ingredients as Consumed. This keeps your inventory accurate.
The more items you add to your inventory with expiry dates, the better your recipe suggestions become. Even adding a few staples like eggs, milk, and vegetables helps a lot.
Recipe urgency badges
Each recipe card has a coloured badge to help you prioritise.
One or more ingredients expire today or tomorrow. Cook this one first.
Ingredients are expiring within the next 7 days. Plan this for the week.
Ingredients are still fresh. You have time to gather any missing items.
Manual ingredient search
You can also search for recipes manually by entering ingredients you want to use, even if they're not in your inventory yet. This is useful for meal planning or if you're at the grocery store wondering what to cook.
- 1
Open the Recipes page
Navigate to Recipes from the sidebar.
- 2
Use the "Search ingredients" field
Type ingredients separated by commas, like: eggs, spinach, tomato
- 3
View matching recipes
FridgeFlow will show recipes that can be made with those ingredients, even if they're not in your current inventory.
Manual search uses fuzzy matching, so you don't need to type exact names. "egg" will match "eggs" and "boiled egg", and "chicken" will match "chicken breast" and "grilled chicken".
