Overview

The meal planner shows a weekly calendar with four meal slots per day: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack. You can assign any recipe from your collection or the community, or write in a custom meal name.

Meal planning is available on Starter and Pro plans. Free users can view the page but won't be able to add meals.

Adding a meal to the plan

  1. 1

    Open the Meal Plan page

Navigate to Meal Plan in the sidebar (under the Cooking group).

  2. 2

    Pick a day and slot

Use the day selector to choose the date, then click + on any meal slot (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack).

  3. 3

    Choose a recipe

Select from your household recipes, community recipes, or type a custom meal name. Set the number of servings.

  4. 4

    Save

Click Add to add it to your plan. The meal card appears in the slot with prep time and servings info.

Smart suggestions

The planner shows smart recipe suggestions based on items in your fridge that are about to expire. These appear at the top so you can prioritise cooking with what needs to be used first.

Moving a meal to another day

Need to reschedule? Each meal card has a Move button (the swap icon).

  1. 1

    Click the Move button

Hover over a meal card and click the swap-arrows icon.

  2. 2

Pick a new day and slot

A dialog shows all 7 days of the week and the 4 meal slots. Tap the target day and slot.

  3. 3

    Confirm

Click Move and the meal is rescheduled instantly.

Cooking a meal

When you're ready to cook, click the Cook button on the meal card. FridgeFlow will:

  1. Match recipe ingredients against your current inventory
  2. Show which items will be deducted (and any missing items)
  3. Deduct the quantities from your fridge on confirmation
  4. Mark the meal as cooked

If you accidentally cooked the wrong meal, use Undo cook to restore the deducted quantities back to your inventory.

Shopping list for the week

Below the meal calendar, FridgeFlow shows a shopping list with all ingredients needed for your planned meals. Items are split into two groups:

  • Already have — ingredients in your inventory with sufficient quantity
  • Need to buy — missing or insufficient ingredients with the exact amount you need

Common questions

Can I plan meals for more than one week?
Yes. Use the week navigation arrows (← →) to move between weeks and add meals to any future date.
What happens if I delete a meal from the plan?
The meal is removed from the calendar. Your inventory is not affected — items are only deducted when you use the Cook button.
Can I add a meal without a recipe?
Yes. When adding a meal, choose Custom and type any name (e.g., "Leftovers" or "Eating out"). Custom meals won't have ingredient matching.
