What is AI Kitchen Chat?
AI Kitchen Chat is your personal kitchen assistant. It knows everything in your inventory and can answer questions, suggest meals, and give you food storage tips — all in a simple chat conversation.
AI Kitchen Chat is available on all plans. Free includes 12 AI credits/month, Starter 75, and Pro 500.

Based on your inventory, here are 3 ideas for tonight:
1. 🍗 Chicken stir-fry — uses chicken breast (expires tomorrow!), peppers, and soy sauce.
2. 🥗 Spinach salad — uses baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, and feta.
3. 🍳 Egg fried rice — uses eggs, leftover rice, and frozen peas.
I'd recommend option 1 — the chicken needs to be used today.
Step 1 — Add your API key
FridgeFlow uses your own API key from your chosen AI provider. This means you control your own usage and costs — and your conversations are never shared with FridgeFlow. Setup takes about one minute.

Go to Settings → AI tab
Open Settings from the top-right menu, then tap the AI tab.

Choose your AI provider
Pick one of the supported providers:
🟢OpenAI
Key starts with sk-... — get it from platform.openai.com/api-keys
🟣Anthropic Claude
Key starts with sk-ant-... — get it from console.anthropic.com/settings/keys
🔵Google Gemini
Key starts with AIza... — get it from aistudio.google.com/app/apikey

Paste your API key and save
Paste your key into the API key field. Tap Test connection first to verify it works, then tap Save key.

AI Chat is now active
Go to Chat in the sidebar and start your first conversation.
Your API key is stored securely for your household. All household members share the same key — you only need to set it up once. The key is never displayed again after saving.
How to start a conversation

Tap "Chat" in the sidebar
Find AI Kitchen Chat in the sidebar navigation. It looks like a speech bubble icon.

Type your question
Tap the text box at the bottom and type whatever you want to ask. Use plain, everyday language — no special commands needed.

Read the answer
The AI replies in a few seconds. If it mentions a specific item from your fridge, it's using your real inventory to answer.

Continue the conversation
You can ask follow-up questions just like a real conversation. "What about using the spinach instead?" or "Give me a vegetarian option" all work naturally.
The AI Kitchen Chat works best when your inventory is up to date. The more accurately your fridge is reflected in FridgeFlow, the more personalised the answers will be.

Starting a fresh conversation
Each chat session remembers the conversation so far. If you want to start a completely fresh topic, tap the "New conversation" button at the top of the chat page. Your previous conversations are saved in the history section.
The AI doesn't have access to your personal information — only your inventory items and their expiry dates. It cannot see your account details, payment information, or household members.
